Apple’s cheeky ‘Parent Presentation’ helps kids make the hard sell on buying a Mac

For high school seniors in the U.S., graduation season is coming to a close. [Personal note: congrats to my niece! Way to go!] That means the start of college isn’t far off and it’s time to get ready for the next step in an academic career. That usually involves investing in a computer, and companies offer deals for new college students, including Apple.

The competition for your dollars is fierce, and Apple wants to help new college students persuade parents into buying a Mac. The company has just released The Parent Presentation, a set of slides with content that has all the reasons why you should buy a Mac: they’re durable and powerful enough to last “through college and beyond,” and they maintain their value.

The slides are customizable, so students can add their content, and Apple also includes suggestions as to what to add. For example, on a slide that explains the return on investment, Apple suggests replacing the slide with, “your parents’ guilty pleasure or service they probably spend a little too much money on.”

The company has a video titled, The Parent Presentation, starring Martin Herlihy of Please Don’t Destroy and Saturday Night Live fame. The 7-and-a-half-minute video made us cringe, but hey, cringe seems to be Apple’s thing nowadays. (Update: Apple has pulled the YouTube video after social media criticism.)
