Apple releases AirPort Software 3.4.1
After numerous complaints from users about signal strength and dropped connections following the AirPort Software 3.4 update, Apple on Monday updated the software again, bringing it to version 3.4.1. According to notes provided with the update, AirPort Software 3.4.1 provides improved antenna output control; Enhanced logging from your base station which is compatible with syslog; and Performance improvements for WPA security implementations. Wayport Inc. said McDonald's Corp. has selected the company as its exclusive nationwide public access Wi-Fi provider, which could lead to deployment of the world's largest Wi-Fi network. Dan Lowden, vice president of marketing at Austin-based Wayport, said his company expects to install Wi-Fi service in about 3,000 McDonald's restaurants this year and eventually plans to extend the service to "as many as possible" of the 13,000 McDonald's outlets in the U.S. during the course of the four-year contract.News

Amtrak to offer Wi-Fi in six Northeast stations
Amtrak and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. have inked a deal to put wireless Internet access in six of the railroad's stations along the Northeast Corridor. "Amtrak is excited to be able to offer our customers another way to meld their busy schedules and the work they need to get done," Sally Bellet, Amtrak vice president of real estate development, said in a statement.
